CLAYTON WAHPETA (?– )

AKIMEL O'ODHAM JAR 2003

We put this jar on page 135 of our Second Edition of Southwestern Pottery, Anasazi to Zuni and on page 161 of our The Desert Southwest, Four Thousand Years of Life and Art. In 2006, when we wrote The Desert Southwest, we talked about Akimel potters such as Warren Oliver and Tobias Manuel working in Maricopa and Hohokam revival styles, then mentioned that "new Akimel potters such as Clayton Wahpeta appear from time to time." In the years since, we haven't heard anything more about Clayton or seen any other pieces, but judging by the quality of this little jar that reminds of San Ildefonso white-on-red, we hope he's still active.

3-1/2" diameter x 1-3/4" high

Condition excellent
