ANGIE WESTIKA (?– )

ZUNI POLYCHROME JAR circa 1990

Some potters fly totally under the radar, no matter how prominent their families may be. Westika potters at Zuni go back to the 1920s, and Schaaf's Southern Pueblo Pottery lists five of them including Angie, but the only information it gives about her is active?–present. We do know that Darrel Westika is Priscilla Peynetsa's husband, and we put a remarkable piece by him on page 203 of our Second Edition of Southwestern Pottery, Anasazi to Zuni. The collector we bought this from said she bought it "about 20 years ago," which gave us our guess at the date. It's a classic Zuni piece, made traditionally by a potter from a major pottery family.
