ACOMA POLYCHROME OLLA circa 1950

Normally, a noble mid-century Acoma olla this large would command a much higher price, but this one suffered a calamity somewhere along the way, and it's been reassembled and touched up. This design is an Acoma favorite. It occurs on Tularosa Black on white and other prehistoric types made to the south of Acoma and to the west in the White Mountains. We've heard tales of Acoma potters who have storehouses of the ancient pottery that turns up on the reservation which they use as source material for their designs. You can find this Tularosa Swirl on Acoma pots made in every decade of the last 150 years.
