HOPI POLYCHROME ASHTRAY circa 1950

This was made during the period when the Hopis made large amounts of impractical tourist pottery—easily breakable napkin rings, barely fillable salt & pepper shakers and uncleanable ashtrays. Fortunately, considering how well made it is, this piece never suffered the fate that befell so many of its counterparts. It never had cigarettes extinguished in its bowl, which would have scarred it with ugly burn marks forever.

5" diameter x 1-3/4" high
