FRIEDA POLEAHLA (circa 1930–1995)

HOPI BLACK ON RED JAR circa 1965

Some potters go through life in the shadow of the better-publicized, but lately Freida has begun to receive some recognition. We recently saw an 11" diameter black-on-red shallow bowl from about this same period with a hefty four-figure price tat. She was active from the 1950s on and, although she doesn't get much mention, her daughter Colleen rates a long entry in Gregory Schaaf's 1998 Hopi-Tewa Pottery. This is in excellent condition and is beautifully made and painted, polished as caefully on the inside as it is on the outside.

8-1/2" diameter x 4-5/8" high

Condition excellent
