PRISCILLA NAMINGHA (1924–2008)

HOPI JAR circa 1980

There's so much family history that surrounds any piece made by Priscilla that even a minor one is worthy of serious respect. Priscilla represents a big segment of the Nampeyo family tree. She watched her mother, her grandmother and her aunts decorate pieces for Nampeyo and grew up surrounded by world-famous potters. Priscilla was Rachel Namingha's daughter, Annie Healing's granddaughter and Nampeyo's great-granddaughter, and her daughters Jean, Rachel, Bonnie and Nyla Sahmie are current pottery royalty. From her birth to her death, Priscilla was at the center of Hopi pottery greatness.
