COLLEEN POLEAHLA (1961– )
HOPI POLYCHROME SEED JAR circa 1990
Colleen Poleahla may not seem like a top-of-the-marquee name among Hopi pottery stars, but she's hardly unnoticed. Her mother was the well-known Freida Poleahla, and Schaaf's Hopi Indian Pottery gives her more than a page. Her biography in the book talks about her exhibitions and shows and concludes "Colleen's style of painting also is unique—strong, bold brush strokes with impressionistic flair. . . . Although she has yet to be widely exhibited, the quality of her work is exceptional." Her signature gives her clan affiliations. This piece has a Nampeyoish design and is thin and carefully made. A small repaired rim chip shouldn't diminish its value..
4-3/4" diameter x 2-1/2" high
Excellent condition except for a small chip in the rim,
