VERNIDA POLACCA NAMPEYO (1955– )
HOPI POLYCHROME JAR circa 1980
Here we hava a classic little Nampeyo-family migration-pattern jar, made by and painted with excruciating accuracy by Nampeyo's great-granddaughter. Vernida is one of the finest living Hopi potters. Her grandmother, Fannie Nampeyo, made this design pretty much her own personal property over the years, to the point where, if you bought a book on Hopi pottery a few years ago, it would almost certainly have a Fannie migration jar on the cover. This piece has all the features of the most highly prized Hopi pottery except for its size and condition. Hopi paint is fragile, and this has been handled, perhaps lovingly but excessively. The paint wear explains the bargain price.
2-1/2" diameter x 3-3/4" high
Very good condition except for the paint wear
