CHRIS TELLER (1956– )
ISLETA POLYCHROME EFFIGY JAR 2017
Forty years ago, Chris Teller's mother, Stella Teller, redefined Isleta pottery. Chris and her three sisters continued in their mother's style, and Chris has continued to expand on it. Her first recognition came from storytellers like her mother's, but in recent years, she's gone far beyond them. She gathers her own clay and shapes, paints and fires her pieces traditionally. She won first awards at Indian Market as far back as 1995, and her work has brought her wide attention. Today she ranks near the top of the Southwestern pottery hierarchy. An important piece by an important potter, larger than many of her pieces.
