KEWA POLYCHROME BIRD EFFIGY BOWL circa 1960

We gave this one of our collector's-special green dots because, of all the pieces on our site, none fall more clearly under our "old and unusual" umbrella, especially the unusual part. We've never seen a piece like this before, and when we took it home, it took us a while to decide how to photograph it and how to display it. After staring at it, we decided that the decoration belongs on the bottom and it should be allowed to fulfill its rightful role. We're not quite sure what that is, but we suppose our book partner, John Blom, would look at it and tell us it's a candy dish. We'll always wonder, however, if it might be happier turned over, displaying its plumage and set free to grub for worms. Whatever you choose to do with it, you can rest assured that not many other people have one like it.
