CLINTON POLACCA NAMPEYO (1958– )
HOPI POLYCHROME JAR 2015
Here's a classic little Nampeyo-family batwing-pattern jar, made by and painted with excruciating accuracy by Nampeyo's great-grandson, but with an unusual twist—the matte red neck and underbody. Of the thousands of Hopi pieces we've seen, we've only seen two with large areas of matte paint: this and one by his cousin Dextra. Clinton is one of the finest living Hopi potters. His grandmother, Fannie Nampeyo, made batwing and migration pattern jars pretty much her own personal property over the years, to the point where, if you bought a book on Hopi pottery a few years ago, it would almost certainly have had a Fannie migration jar on the cover. This piece has all the features of the most highly prized Hopi pottery except for its size and its price..
